It was better than I hoped for. I figured it'd be fairly good in both science content and in the visuals. I mean, the commercials looked pretty fantastic visually and it's hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson so it should have some interesting things to it. That said... I'm pleased to say any worries that it'd be lacking were wiped away fairly quickly.

Is it some manner of replacement of Carl Sagan's original? Not at all. In fact, that first episode is as much a love letter to science as it is a tribute to work that came before it. I even found myself with a little science in my eyes at times.

For those who missed it, it plays at 9pm on Sundays on FOX and the National Geographic channel. Not sure if it'll happen again next week but it was All across the FOX networks - including FOX Sports which... is kinda' funny when you think about it. It's lead-in show was a UFC show. = )

Anyhoo! I tried to find the original series, 'Cosmos: A Personal Voyage', but I couldn't find any legal sources anymore. Used to be on Hulu but I guess it's gone again. If you hunt around YouTube, I'm sure you find it.
