Where to start... well, the comic is based off of (Mostly) true events. Remember kids: If you announce your product at a trade show covered by tech folks, you may want to add some extra equipment just in case they hit your site all at once. -.-

Outside of that, my experience has been fine. I'm a few days in and I've only found a couple of nagging things that might be corrected with a driver update or some settings tweaking. Something I found absolutely cool about the new OS is that it doesn't fail on me even though I'm running it on what's now a low-end system. My laptop is a 1.5 GHz Pentium M system running on a gig and a half of memory. All that said, it's still pretty quick. A half step behind WinXP but still a good deal faster than Vista was. Less clutter too.

The visuals for Win7 are nice. I know this may sound like a typical artist answer but one thing I'm pleased to see is a default desktop wallpaper that I'm more than happy to keep. It's simple without feeling as barren as that blue sky/rolling green hill thing that came with WinXP. The less clutter continues into the file system layout. It's like a cleaned up version of Vista's file system and I really don't mind that.

The task bar this time around is just plain neat - both in function and in design. Instead of dragging things into the quick launch area, you can "Pin them" there. The task bar will now show the active tabs where you pinned the program instead of stacking them as they open. You'll know whats what because you'll know where you pinned it. Another thing that caught my attention was how it handles programs that have been minimized to the task bar. You can choose to show or hide each program's icon individually. More options if you're low on screen space.

One space saving trick I turned off was allowing the active tabs to be minimized down to just icons. You can choose to hide titles and only show the icon if you want - it's set that way by default. Being the kind of guy that bounces between machines often, this was more of hurt more than helped productivity. It does look cool but not a function for me.

I'll probably talk more about this later on. The longer I play with Win7, the more I think "Maybe this was supposed to be Vista." I'm off to get some sleep. See you next time.
