Did I hear that right? o.O

On the list of impossible things that could never happen in a million years, this ranks pretty high up on that list:

Disney to aquire Marvel Comics for $4 Billion.

Shortly after this was announced, large chunks of the internet lost their collective minds. Bad jokes, rumors and other such nonesense started to fly all before I had my first coffee. As a comic book fan, I'll weigh in of it too.

  • This isn't the first time this has happened, it just seems years later than it should have.

DC is part of Time Warner. I'm shocked Disney took this long to make their move as they haven't had much in the way of strong properties geared toward young males (or males in general).

  • Some folks are reading this as a bad thing. Again, I don't see it.

Disney has the ways and means to get Marvel products out all over the world. Marvel allows Disney an in on the young male demo, something they haven't had in years. Closest thing they have currently is Cars and that's a Pixar idea.

  • The Disney/Marvel relationship seems to be akin that of Pixar and ESPN. There is little evidence that the House of Mouse will mess too badly in the affairs and products of the House of Ideas.

As a fan of both places, I would like to see two things come out of this deal: I would like to see Marvel talent do their thing on some of Disney's action/adventure titles from the 90's like TaleSpin and I would like to see Disney back Marvel with their animation department's resources.

Then again, this is just one fan's speculation who needs to get back to work on the strip. I'll try to get it up later tonight.

Excelsior!
