It's a terrible advantage but an advantage nonetheless.

So I went down memory lane, pulled from it my fave Nuggets of Joy and pulled out... 'My Secret Identity'. Not a cartoon, I know, but we're getting to that.

The idea of the thing was to post something you feel you'd either get or have gotten the most WTF looks from. For me, it's 'My Secret Identity'. Most folks ever-so-slightly younger than me think I'm misremembering 'The Secret World of Alex Mack' but no... it was a show. I followed it up with a few I figured most wouldn't remember like 'Out of this World' (another live-action show I just Barely remember), 'Kidd Video', 'Camp Candy' and 'Kissyfur'. It's those last three I'm pleased to say are still out there in the aether that is the Internet. I know this 'cause I found them. = )

I got lucky this time around. I've searched for these shows at various points over the years. Normally, I get back scratchy VHS transfers of the opening themes from tapes that are barely holding on after decades of abuse and neglect. This time, I found whole episodes...

Of which the Camp Candy ones were still super scratchy and hard to watch and the Kidd Video ones where, when not chopped up thanks to the show's use of both popular songs and the musicians from the 80's as key parts to the episodes' plots, where just super low quality transfers.

The only one to survive was Kissyfur.

And that's what I've been watching to keep my mind from going down from all the news that honestly refuses to quit.

The fun thing about finally finding the whole run of Kissyfur is it answered a question I'd had for decades (Yes, Actual decades). The show opens with a super short rundown of the story: Kissyfur and his father were circus bears. The train they were on derailed and fell in the water. They make it out and find their way to the swap they live in and where the show it set. We get a character rundown and it leads into the title card for that week's episode(s). Friends... that train crashing into the water Is Not the darkest part of Kissyfur's backstory. o.O

I'm not going to spoil this kid's cartoon from the 80's. Instead, I ask that you look up the pilot episode - Bear Roots - and inflict that psychic damage upon yourself if you want to. Beyond that, I do actually recommend it. It's not a terrible cartoon. It does suffer from some very 80's moments but it's a fun watch. And no, it's not just a big ol' toy commercial like folks think all 80's cartoons were. It's got heart and it still holds up well enough.

Remember: Stay Safe. Wear a Mask. Get vaccinated if you can. Get a booster if you're already good on that. And remember to keep your head up.
