Thanks to the help of my folks, I got to hit up ConnectiCon for a day this past Friday. The cash I had set aside for a ticket got pulled and sent out for a bill not three hours before my friend and I left to the con. That's how close this was cut.
Anyhoo! My friend and I got in and got to a couple of panels. Even for a Friday, this year's line-up was pretty sweet. When we got there, it turned out they had even more voice actors than I have seen mentioned. Normally a good thing... unless you're me and kinda' turn into a five year old in the presence of folks you respect and kinda' helped form your childhood. Like the Rob Paulsen (Pinky), Maurice LaMarche (The Brain), Richard Horvitz (ZIM) and Alan Oppenheimer (The Friggin' Voice of Skeletor!).
I have BS'd with actors and athletes at various cons. I spent years dealing with business folks with crazy cash and connections who let folks know it. Yet I found myself incredibly starstruck talking to Rikki Simons - a cartoonist who just happens to have played Gir - despite having a shared interest in comics! More proof that nostalgia is my kryptonite. -.-
I'd do a breakdown but it's short as I had very little cash to spend. Spent $30 total: $20 on the remaining four Star Power comics and a crazy low $10 on a very nice Canson flat folding sketchbook. Again, very low funds means very little spent. I did act as photographer for my friend which was pretty cool.
Here's hoping that next year goes better financially. I'd love to table there again and maybe even work up the nerve to perhaps talk to any of the voice actors they might bring next year. For now, I've got a 'Net Connection to fix. Darn thing almost made the strip later than it was.
'Till next time. = )
