Upgrades!

Email Me Biff on Twitter -
So I got around to some of those upgrades I mentioned last time.

If you look around the site, you'll see some updated graphics. I took a bit to spruce things up visually, what with Patreon's recent branding update and all. I fixed up the logos of the other services you see around the page, too. I also added the other Patreon buttons I had built pics for but foolishly never added here. Same thing goes with the top ad. Something tells me I'm better served using that space to talk up supporting that instead of Biff Books (for the moment). = )

I also got to shrinking the file sizes of some of my pics so it's a bit easier on folks' bandwidth. Since much of this place is simple graphics, I cut many of the file sizes nearly in half by switching them to way leaner PNGs. I'm at the point where the only things I can personally tweak are the strips themselves and the handful of pics I use for my in-house ads.

Another thing I did was replace the AddThis bar by the comic. Their script is pretty slick now so that should help speed things up. Bonus: I decided to dump my older static script for a dynamic one. It should show different sharing options up front for folks.

Lastly, I bought a new heatsink for my old AMD FM2 A6 chip. It may be old but, thanks to AMD's insistence in barely changing the footprint of their chip's heatsink mounts on motherboards, I got to pop on yet another stock heatsinks - this time from their recent well-reviewed Wraith series of coolers. You can see the size difference here. -> [Link]

That massive thing actually fit on my 4 year old board. It's disturbingly quiet, too. Like... I used to be able to tell my old heatsink from the case fans. Now, I can't hear it over the fans at all. It's keeping things a good 10 degrees cooler which is fantastic. Good stuff, indeed!

Now to get up and stretch a bit. My plan for next time is to hope graphics card prices drop enough to match what I can afford. I'm eyeing a Radeon RX550 4gig as it looks to hit all the marks I need it to. While I'm gone, have a Sonic pic I drew up on Friday. -> [Art LinkTastic!]

'Till next time! = )
