This past week, Bungie dropped the first new expansion to their 'Destiny' franchise that's not part of their "Light and Darkness Saga" - the story we've been playing through since the beginning. It's called "Edge of Fate" and I'd LOVE to tell you how fun it is and how good the story has been but... yeah.
I can't. o.o
See... the game has been Exceptionally janky since it launched on Tuesday. I went to play on Launch Day after I got some work done and I couldn't. For some reason, the update - a massive all-nighter sized dealie - didn't take for some reason? I play on console so you'd figure updates on a dedicated machine that I can't easily mess with would go smoother. Not the case this time! So I let the thing re-download the updates it needed and got back to work on the strip.
Smash Cut to Friday Night. I've successfully gotten the game to load and I've mostly enjoyed the first mission. It's very much a "Teach you the new mechanics and show off the new Enemy Types" kind of mission. I did like I do when I get brand new loot in the game and I tried it on. My plan was to run that first mission, pop on over to the Tower, see what I missed in my Inbox and go goof off over on the EDZ like I always do.
That Was the plan, at least.
What I didn't know was the fine folks at Bungie shipped One Hell of a buggy expansion. -.-
From here on out, you need to know I play 'Destiny 2' on a PlayStation 4. What comes next are what I tried to get things to not crash at the drop of a hat:
- Effectively turning off the SFX. I guess there are sound issues that were dropping folks' games. It didn't work for me.
- Taking off the new Class piece from your Guardian. The idea is that the new gear is messing with things. It didn't work.
- Taking ALL the new gear off your Guardian. Like the last one, it removes the changes the new gear brings to the table. It didn't work.
The only thing that worked for me was to Vault all new armor. It didn't matter if I didn't have it on anymore, the game still counted it as "On" as long as I had it on my character. After Vaulting, things went (mostly) back to normal. The game is still Wildly unstable, though.
I'd love to say I've been having fun with this expansion but I've been spending more time testing new ways to prevent random system crashes than playing. If you're a Destiny fan and/or you want to jump back in, I suggest waiting a week or two 'till things smooth out a bit. If you do pop in, try to hit up the Tower first and do what you need to do there Before running the new campaign. -.-
Anyhoo! I'm going to stretch, eat something and start in on the next strip. It looks to be a Double Decker and I really can't count on the weather being stable or not deathly humid lately. I'd like to get this one done relatively soon-ish, ya' know?
Remember: Stay Safe. Wear a Mask if you need to. Get vaccinated if you can. Get a booster if you're already good on all that. And remember to keep your head up.
'Till next time! = )
