Gundam Build Divers! = D

I've been meaning to drop a playlist for this for a bit now so... here it is! -> [Video Playlist LinkTastic!]

I'd love to say that Build Divers either something completely different or it's more of the same but I really can't.

It's like the other Build series in that Gundam is a big brand name property/toy line in its universe. The kids still build their Gunpla and battle them. It's still a big goofy awesome toy commercial like the cartoons of my childhood. Where it changes things up from the older formula is where the fights happen.

Instead of the kids battling face-to-face with their Gunpla on a physical battlefield, Build Divers takes a page from stuff stuff like .Hack// and Sword Art Online and has the kids battling it out in a completely virtual world. They still build their Gunpla and whatnot, but it takes a gimmick from the neat yet Painfully long titled 'Model Suit Gunpla Builders Beginning G' OVA from 2010.

The machine they use to play 'Gundam Battle Nexus' has a little scanner doohickey on it like the old GP Base. Instead of it moving the Gunpla around afterward, it loads the scanned info into the Nexus and the kids can pilot it, earn XP and generally do all the usual MMO stuff you normally see in anime with these types of VR games.

I know it seems like I'm kinda' being down on it but it's a neat twist. You get the fun over-the-top battles the Build series is known for without the side bits of awkward "Wait... They're not in the cockpit. Why are they acting like that?" realizations from the earlier entries. = )

Now I'm off to do my usual post-comic stuff. If you have the time, give Gundam Build Divers a shot. It's a Damn good series so far and well worth a watch.

'Till next time! = )
