Win7'd?!

Email Me Biff on Twitter -
If you've followed some of my social media accounts, you know this pain already. For those who don't... Time for Some Fun! = D

Summer's coming which means the possibility of travel. I'm trying to improve my digital art game so I've been slowly getting stuff for my Tablet PC thingie - a Fujitsu Lifebook T4220 - to make it usable for longer than a few hours on the road. I just got a new battery, I'm planning on getting a fresh spare and a better power supply soon. When I went to install the most recent large Win10 update, it tossed up an error and said it couldn't run on my older equipment (the SD Card chipset was too old). After failing to get it to go, I decided to downgrade to Win7.

This was my first mistake. -.-

I found a copy of Tiny 7 - an incredibly streamlined and stripped down version of of Win7 - and figured I'd give it a try. More free space means more pics and I really don't need 3/4ths of the stuff in a standard Windows install. I get it running no problem and... I find out that Autodesk Sketchbook (Which is Now Totally Free!) only runs on 64-bit OS's. This means Tiny 7 - based on the x86 version of Win7 - is not the solution I need right now but I'll play with it again sometime later.

So it's back to my Main system. This time around, I tried to roll my own small x64 version of Win7. It wasn't anywhere near Tiny 7's footprint but it was small and missing the stuff I don't use. Too much, in fact. None of the copies I rolled wanted to update after that. They were all missing a "Mystery Component" that Windows refused to tell me so I couldn't fix them. o.O

So... I load up my trusty ISO of Win7 Ultimate x86/x64 and I go pop it back onto the thumb drive that has been it's home for a couple of years now and my main system starts tossing up errors. The program I use (and had Just used earlier that day) to burn ISOs to USB drives was being messed with by something? I still don't know. I spent the rest of that night bouncing my copy back over to the Lifebook to get it to make the Bootable USB. Which it couldn't. Not of my old ISO. Something happened to it and it got corrupted somehow.

I finally dug deep to find an old once-valid copy of Win7 Pro x64, made a working Bootable USB thingie, re-installed Win7 on the machine and updated it to the most recent version available. This whole ordeal lasted from Sunday to sometime around Thursday morning. It's not back to where it was just yet, but all that I need to be working on it works so far.

Computers, folks! = D

On the Plus Side: Played the Destiny 2 - Warmind DLC to stop me from breaking my stuff. It was fun. A short story with a lot to do afterward. Like that the grind is back and the things to grind for (exotic masterworks, Crucible rank, the usual random goofy glamor items) feel like they're worth the work. Need to level up more before the new Extraction event will stop beating me senseless but I kinda' like that it's not something I can just walk all over after a few good item drops.

Now I'm off to do my usual post-comic stuff. Cartoonist needs food badly.

'Till next time! = )
